Wheatgrass is simple to grow, just follow the steps below.
Soak 125g of organic wheatgrain or barley for 8-12 hours.
Drain seeds and then rinse thoroughly with cold running water three or four times until water runs clear.
Place peat free compost in tray to even depth of 25-50mm.
Distribute sprouted seeds evenly over the soil making sure the seeds aren't smothered by each other.
Soak seeds and soil thoroughly with water (ideally with a small watering can)
Leave in a dark, shady place at room temperature20-30ºC for 2-3 days.
Then move into a bright area avoiding direct sunlight(windowsill is a good place).
It is important to keep wheatgrass well watered at all times, but not waterlogged.
Don't worry if some mould forms on the soil, just harvest above the
level of any mould and wash well.
Harvest with a scissors/knife when wheatgrass reaches 8-10” (7-10 days).
Juice using only a slow turning ‘wheatgrass' juicer or the Good4u juice4life is ideal for juicing wheatgrass. Blenders and other home juicers don't work as they simply chop and oxidize the grass and chopped grass cannot be digested.
You may get another harvest from your seed, however, the second harvest is not as nutrient rich.
2 to 3 small bundles of wheatgrass fed through a masticating juicer(Good4U Juice4Life) will yield one 3oml shot which is the recommended daily consumption. Or simply add to your favourite juice
Good4U's favourite is
1l Apple
30g Wheatgrass
16g Lime Juice
Note: Many people prefer to pre sprout using a sprouter as this speeds up the growing process. Simply place seeds into your sprouter after step 2. Rinse & drain twice daily for two days. Goal is to have a small shoot. Continue to follow instructions from step 3.
